The preservation of Islam in the hearts of Muslims around the globe.
On April 12th, 1996, a group of Muslim brothers from the Lower East Side, including brothers from the local Tableegh Jamat, realized the need for a mosque in the neighborhood. By Allah’s ﷻ will, Assafa Islamic Center was founded in a small tailoring store rented from a Muslim business owner. Soon after, Assafa’s newly formed management committee filed for an NYC/NYS incorporation. Assafa’s congregation continued to grow rapidly and moved to a basement at 172 Allen Street.
In 1998, Allah ﷻ blessed the community with the ability to buy a vacant lot from an NYC auction on Eldridge Street, near Chinatown and Bowery.
Assafa’s team worked diligently from 2004 to 2016 to construct a new building on this plot to the maximum size approved by the city.
Today, a 6-story building stands in Downtown Manhattan as a House of Allah. All praises belong to Allah, ﷻ who gave the Assafa community the ability to pursue this journey, and may He ﷻ reward them with forgiveness and Jannah.
With the permission of Allah ﷻ, Darul Uloom Assafa (DUA) Institute was founded in ____ with the dream to nurture Islamic scholars who will spread the deen throughout the world. Alhamdulillah, the first student to complete his memorization of the Holy Qur’an from Assafa has graduated from college, completed a full ‘alimiyyah course, and is now an active scholar.
DUA Institute currently provides a full-time Hifz al-Qur’an course along with state-approved online academic courses. Once students complete their hifz, they can attend high school at their grade level
